The 5 Move Summer Mat Workout

The 5 Move Summer Mat Workout

Sometimes simple is best and body weight workouts are no different. All you need is a yoga or fitness mat and a get up and go attitude. I'm going to put it out there and say the notion of motivation that gets sold to us is bulls#%t. I firmly believe that motivation happens in the doing and that getting started is actually the hardest part. That's where this super handy 5 Move Mat Workout comes in. We teamed up with personal Trainer Taylah Kelly to help you show how it's done.

What you'll need:

1 x yoga or fitness mat and enough space to roll it out.

The workout:

This workout is put together as a Tabata style session with a 30/15 ratio. Which means you'll need to complete each exercises for 30 seconds with 15 seconds rest between each exercise. You'll do this non stop for 4 rounds. Some of these are advanced exercises, as always know your limitations and if necessary find a trainer to talk you through them.

The exercises:

Shoot throughs - 30 seconds with 15 seconds rest.

Froggies - 30 seconds with 15 seconds rest.

Wide-leg mountain climbers - 30 seconds with 15 seconds rest.

Burpees - 30 seconds with 15 seconds rest.

Plank jacks - 30 seconds with 15 seconds rest.

The great thing about this style of workout is that you can do it anywhere, anytime. You can also switch up the variety of the exercises. Don't want to do burpees (me neither) then throw in some body weight squats or lunges. The key is to just start. Your body is made to move and loves when you use it!

If you were to ask me which is my favourite mat, it would have to be the Soul Yoga Mat. I love the two-tone colour and textured upper surface. Have fun with this workout and remember feel free to switch up the exercises if it doesn't quite suit you.

Happy training.
